Useful Health Tips
Drink enough water
Drinking fluids regularly lowers the concentration of salts in the urine and reduces stones and urinary infections. Aim for pale urine.
Never ignore blood in the urine
Blood in the urine, even once and without pain, needs a doctor’s visit to find the cause and decide which tests are needed.
Do not hold urine for long periods
Constantly delaying urination can increase infections and strain the bladder. Pass urine when you need to.
No antibiotics without advice
Random antibiotic use can mask the problem and produce resistant bacteria. Have a urine test and culture and follow what your doctor prescribes.
Kidney pain with fever is an emergency
If kidney colic comes with a fever or the urine stops, go to the nearest emergency department straight away.
Check children early
An undescended testicle or repeated urinary infections in a child need to be seen by a paediatric urologist without delay.
